What my clients say about my work.

'Michael was a dream to work with.  He knew exactly what we needed even after a short conversation. He conducted interviews with staff and parents with an easy manner and a compassionate approach.  The film was just beautiful in every way.  It captured everything we needed and more'

Tracey Ripley-McElvogue, Sure Start

‘Working with Michael at EastSide Arts Festival was an exceptional experience.  The support Michael gave to the team at EastSide Arts during our Festival was a huge part of the success.  Michael was flexible, patient and his attention to detail was exceptional.  Michael was professional and worked under extreme pressures to edit and turnaround videos for us within short spaces of time.  The roundup video captured all elements of the Festival in an emotive way leaving a long lasting impact.’

What I do.

I’m a filmmaker with a history of creative filmmaking in the dramatic and documentary worlds. I produce, write, direct, shoot and edit. Having one person, one point of contact, following one creative idea, means your video isn’t diluted or generic. Every video starts with a personalised, original approach and not a template. You’re getting creative videography from an award winning, multiple feature film maker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where do I begin and who comes up with the ideas?

A. Sometimes a client will have a tried and tested brand style and I can give them that but I’ll always trying to improve upon their previous content. Often clients know what they want the video to communicate but can’t imagine what form it takes and that’s where I love to help. My life is dreaming up film ideas and writing screenplays, I love to write voice overs, scripts and craft questions for interviews. I can plan the shots and I’m highly adept at improvising, finding beautiful angles and light in any circumstances.

Q. Do you serve areas outside Belfast?

A. Yes, while much of my work is concentrated in Belfast, I work throughout Ireland. I’ve also worked in Paris and California.

Q. What equipment do you use?

A. I own a range of cinema and broadcast standard equipment. Primarily I film on a Sony FX9 and Sony FX3 depending on the job. My main drone is the cinema quality, 6K, DJI Mavic Pro 4. I own Sony G Master lenses, vintage lenses and a multitude of professional filters. I also have enough lights and hardware to light the most ambitious video. Sound is 70% of what you see, my main microphones are film industry standards. I edit on an M5 MacBook Pro with Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

Q. Can you make me a video, take photos and fly a drone all at one?

A. I can do these all on the same job, one at a time. A simple schedule helps take the time required into account. Drone flying is governed by strict laws and is only carried out when weather conditions and location allow it.

Q. How much does a video cost?

A. Given the bespoke nature of my work, where each client receives their own personalised work, I cost by the job. All jobs are different and require differing efforts, planning, equipment, skills and post production work. Most jobs fall into one of three tiers of pricing. Please get in touch if you want to discuss your project and we can work everything else out from there.

DON’T BE SHY!

I’m friendly and love a good conversation, so feel free to get in touch. You’re under no pressure and if I can’t help you, I know I can point you in the right direction. (If you bring up early ‘70s films then you’ll never get me off the phone).
