About
Michael MacBroom is a Writer, Director and Filmmaker from Belfast. He has produced, written, directed and edited three independent feature films, a number of funded short films and made countless documentary shorts and videos. Michael was editor on two features for Cannes winner Rob Nilsson in the USA. Personal Statement As a Writer and Director I specialise in character driven films often using improvisation and improvised backstory rehearsal. I try to create real moments and capture them on camera. My interest is in exploring themes and ideas played out through characters in everyday circumstances and I'm often drawn to marginalised figures. I have many years of experience as a community filmmaker, working with people from all walks of life, from ex-prisoners to school children to psychiatric patients to asylum seekers. This continues to be an invaluable education for writing, directing and filmmaking. As a Cinematographer I've lit and shot many short documentaries and one of my own dramatic features, taking a lot of my lighting knowledge from documentary practice. In recent years I've been hired as Cinematographer on various short dramas, commercials and documentaries. |
