The Brief - Create a promotional video for Leftfield and Todd Terje, EastSide Electronics 2026 event. The Night Institute needed a short and impactful promo video for socials that would spread the word about their biggest event yet, bringing Todd Terje, the Swedish king of space disco and legendary electronic music pioneers, Leftfield, to Belfast. The client wanted a short and informal conversation between themselves to be recorded on location in CS Lewis Square. With some additional cutaways filmed on route to three supporting venues in close proximity, Bullhouse, CS Lewis Square and Banana Block.

The Method - I didn’t think a conversation with some standard cutaways would be enough to reflect the excitement and prestige that this event deserved. So I created lots of additional visual elements by playing with the respective artists’ distinctive art work styles and creating choppy, animated graphics and titles throughout the video. I also spent time rephotographing hundreds of stills from the recorded conversation, adding graphics and using them to ‘animate’ the clients. Then I recorded drone footage of the key locations with rapid lateral movements in order to cut together as part of a montage. The staccato cutting technique seemed perfect for the music.
