It Came From Comber (2019). Director, DoP, Editor.
Funded by NI Screen
Short documentary about amateur filmmaker Roy Spence. For over 50 years Roy has been making low and no budget films in rural Northern Ireland; with subjects including leprechauns, aliens, fifties rock 'n' rollers and the undead. It Came From Comber gives an honest and revealing account of Roy's problems, techniques, solutions and successes in low budget film making in the 1960s through to the 1980s. Using archive footage and interviews, the film shows examples of his approach to putting images on the screen using fairly crude equipment and whatever facilities and talent were available at the time. If anything his work illustrates what can be achieved with determination, imagination and above all else enthusiasm and is recommended to all those who have a genuine and burning desire to make movies.
